Not a lot is said about Eric Coates, who was known as the King of Light Music in his time. Today is the 127th anniversary of his birth, so we felt this was a great time to put Coates back in the spotlight for a few minutes. He was quite an interesting character! August 27, 1886 in Hucknall, England d. December 23, 1957 in Chichester, England Eric Coates studied violin and viola as a child and went on to study viola at the Royal Academy of Music. He performed as a principal violist with the Queen’s Hall Orchestra.
